The BYD Seagull is a compact, all-electric city car launched by BYD Auto in 2023, designed for urban commuters seeking affordability and efficiency. As the smallest model in BYD’s Ocean Series, it occupies the A00-class (European A-segment) and is marketed as the BYD Dolphin Mini in Latin America and Dolphin Surf in Europe. Measuring 3,780 mm in length, this 5-door, 4-seat hatchback features a sharp, modern design with angular LED headlights, a sloping roofline, and a full-width rear light bar, embodying BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics.”
Powered by a 55 kW (74 hp) front-wheel-drive motor with 135 Nm of torque, the Seagull offers zippy performance, accelerating from 0-50 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 130 km/h. It comes with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery options: a 30.08 kWh pack delivering up to 305 km of range or a 38.88 kWh pack offering up to 405 km (NEDC). DC fast charging takes the battery from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes, while slow charging takes 4.3 hours.
The interior maximizes space with a 66% wheelbase-to-length ratio, featuring a minimalist, dual-tone cabin with a rotatable 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging. Safety is prioritized with up to six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and a body structure using 61% high-strength steel. The 2025 update introduced the “God’s Eye” DiPilot 100 advanced driver assistance system on mid- and high-end trims (Freedom and Flying Editions), enhancing its tech appeal.
